Phyte Club Update April 17

Published on 17 April 2023 at 08:49

It was a great week in the garden this week!

Our peas and radishes are sprouting. The broccoli seems to have overcome its transplant shock and is looking happy again. The leaf lettuce, kale and spinach are all settled and happy in their beds. We uncovered the strawberries, and we started several new crops under grow lights in the basement.

Thanks to Elliot, our Hugelkultur is taking shape and thanks to Madison, everything got watered well this week.

Many of you painted strawberry decoys to fool the birds that look great!

Our fence banner and table runner are ordered and on the way.

Worthington Spotlight did an interview with us on Friday, so look for the May edition to catch that story.

Phyte Club will meet on Tuesday, from 3:15-4:30 this week. We will move the excavated dirt to the Hugelkultur frame, spread the straw bales on the paths to keep down weeds, and organize ourselves for the May 6 plant sale at the Farmer’s market!

In addition, Zoe has agreed to supervise some swallowtail chrysalids while they finish up their transformation so we can release them when they eclose! I hope to see you there!
